Longhorn Emergency Medical Services (LEMS)

is dedicated to excellence in emergency response and community outreach. LEMS is working to reduce patient contact times on UT campus in the event of a medical emergency. LEMS is committed to fostering a safe environment for the UT community through education, high-quality prehospital care, compassion, professionalism, and integrity.

What We Do

LEMS is a registered student organization made up of mostly emergency medical technicians (EMTs), though you do not have to be certified as an EMT to join.

First Aid Standby

Provide first-aid at athletic, festival, and special events.

Training Workshops

Instruct workshops for CPR and basic trauma care to other organizations.

Stop the Bleed

Provide lead instructors and assistants to teach free bleeding control seminars.

Sobering Center

Provide personnel for Sobering Center’s day to day operations, including triage, patient monitoring, counseling, and discharge.

Partnerships

Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign and a call to action that cultivates grassroots efforts to empower bystanders to help in a bleeding emergency. Dell Medical School sponsors the UT Austin chapter of Stop the Bleed in partnership with Longhorn EMS.

The Sobering Center Austin provides a safe environment for publicly intoxicated individuals to sober up and, when appropriate, initiate recovery. It aims to enhance public health and public safety by providing an alternative to the emergency room and jail.
